K-C releases contingency plan in case of rain Friday
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO- To be on the safe side, K-C Raceway promoter Jeff Schrader has announced a contingency plan for this weekend's "The Classic", the speedway's megabuck season-ending race on October 1, 2 and 3.
"It might rain and it might not, but one way or another we are going to get this show in this weekend," said the optimistic Jeff Schrader. "Thursday looks good for the modifieds. Friday is up to a 70% chance of rain in the day and down to 20% at night. We just want to be prepared. We've seen bad weather reports before and been high and dry. No one knows."
But what we do know is that all three days of the DTWCup Classic will be run. If part of Friday's show is cancelled it will be made up in the afternoon Saturday. If Friday's program is awash, then the entire program of Sprint cars and Late Model qualifying will begin at 1 p.m. in the afternoon. The Saturday night portion of the program would follow the regularly posted schedule.
A worst-case scenario would see everything running on Sunday, the Oct. 4 rain date. Said Schrader, "Saturday looks good with little chance of rain and sunny skies. We hope we get all three nights in at the regular times, but we wanted our fans and drivers to know that yes we are running, and we are running three days worth of racing even if it is done in just two days. If it rains and we can't get the track prepped Friday, we will run all the Sprints Saturday afternoon along with the Late Model preliminaries."
After Friday night's program is run Saturday afternoon, the track and stands will be cleared. Once the areas have been cleared re-entry will be permitted. Fans are asked to cooperate to make this transition a smooth one.
For fans, this three day event of action-packed racing and post-race festive atmosphere is one of the best bargains in racing. A 3-day pass general admission pass is $40 and a 3-day pass for Pit admission is $60. Daily tickets can be purchased in fans wish to attend only one or two nights.

First Annual Dirt Track World Cup Classic lands more big names
K-C Readies for Year's biggest event
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-"The Classic" has not yet turned one year old, but the infant race of high magnitude has landed yet another pair of stars as Ray Cook of Brasstown, NC officially signed on for the $20,000-to-win feature main attraction, that with an added bonus, could provide the winner with a $60,000 first prize. He joins WoO LMS star Clint Smith, 43, of Senoia, Ga. on the long list of racing greats joining the line-up for the highly anticipated event at Schrader's K-C Raceway. $3,000 to win Modifieds and $2,500 to win Outlaw sprints are also on the racing card October 1-2-3.
Cook scored the biggest win of his racing career on Labor Day at Tyler County Speedway as he captured the 41st Annual Hillbilly Hundred sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Cook won $41,000 after winning his fourth series race of 2009.
Smith has five wins this season on the WoO tour including a big win at Muskingum County. Smith decided to make the nineteen and a half hour haul back south to Cleveland, Tennessee from a show in Huron, South Dakota July 18. Smith, the four-time Southern All-Star Champ, is known to travel great distances to race in his home region. That decision ultimately paid him $5000 and gave him his second career Budweiser Jean Johnson Memorial victory. Saturday, he hopes this small trek will be profitable.
Smith is reported to have a new car that he another drivers will test in a late model test session--time permitting-- after Thursday night's modified racing at the DTWC.
The duo joins top entries Eddie Carrier, Jr.; Bart Hartman, Shane Clanton, Tony Knowles, 2009 Champion Delmas Conley, R.J. Conley, Rod Conley, Corey Conley, ,Vic Hill, D.J. Miller, Coleby Frye, Josh McGuire, Brandon Kinzer, Chris Carpenter, Jonathan Davenport, and Keith Berner. Either because the event is the last O’Reilly All-Star point night or through verbal commitments such drivers as Boom Briggs, Rob Blair, Jared Hawkins, Paul Howard, Donnie Moran, Tim Dohm, Barry Doss, Ben Atkins, Greg Oliver, Austin Hubbard, Jared Miley, Jason Covert, Alex Feree, Matt Lux, Davey Johnson, Rick Aukland, Doug Drown, Jason Montgomery, and John Mason are expected to be on hand.
Late Models will have a "Come from the back Challenge" for the pole driver who will get the first option to the bonus of $40,000, then if he declines the bonus will go to the driver on the outside front row.
The driver of either the pole or outside pole will go to the 26th position and if he can come from the back and win, the driver will receive the $20,000 winner prize and a $40,000 bonus; if the driver makes it to second place he will receive a $10,000 bonus; if he only makes it to third place he will receive a $5000 bonus.
Modifieds will have the same challenge, but at a lower bonus appraisal. The Modified Front Row will get the same option and that bonus will be if the driver wins only $1000 bonus.
For fans, this three day event of action-packed racing and post-race festive atmosphere is one of the best bargains in racing. A 3-day pass general admission pass is $40 and a 3-day pass for Pit admission is $60. Daily tickets can be purchased in fans wish to attend only one or two nights.
