K-C ALL-STAR CASH TO CARRIER
Montgomery claims Modifieds, Mossbarger takes Reno Memorial
By Scott Wolfe and Jason Shank
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-In what proved to be the final test and tune session for the O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series sanctioned ‘Dirt Track World Cup’ Dirt Late Model Classic to be held on October 1, 2, & 3 at Jeff Schrader’s KC Raceway in Chillicothe, OH, Salt Rock, WV’s Eddie Carrier Jr. torched the ASLMS field after setting fast time in ‘SPEEDWRAPZ’ Time Trials, winning his ‘Hampton Inn of Chillicothe’ Heat race, and led all 50 laps of the ‘Chillicothe 50’ for his third ASLMS victory of the 2009 season. Jason Montgomery, Jackson, claimed the Tri-State Modified main, while Tommy Mossbarger, Chillicothe, won the Dan Reno Memorial Classic for Hobby Stocks.
Brandon Kinzer and Carrier brought the field down for green flag with Carrier jumping out to the early lead before Rob Lemaster spun to slow the pace. Michael Paul Howard, Barry Doss, and Kevin Layne also got tangled up in turn four but were awarded theirs starting spots back as the caution was thrown for the spun car of Lemaster. As the field attempted to take the green again, 2008 KC Raceway track champion Ben Adkins spun in turn two to halt the action. The field was finally able to get one lap in before Lemaster spun his car again to bring out the events third caution period and forcing all restarts to go single file for the remainder of the event.
Carrier held point while two more early cautions for Greg Oliver’s mount slowed and the other for Doss and Layne spinning again. The field settled down after the lap four restart and the action picked up. Carrier ran a steady line around the extreme outside of ‘Ohio’s Fastest 3/8 Mile Dirt Track’ holding a solid 12 to 15 car length lead over Jason Montgomery who had made his way passed Kinzer for the second spot.
The pace was slowed again on lap 24 as ‘Superfly’ Coleby Frye spun in turn three giving the third place driver of Tim Dohm nowhere to go. Dohm slid sideways into Frye ending his evening with a 16th place finish.
Carrier continued to lead the 50-lap affair with Montgomery and Robbie Blair in tow. Blair, who is in an intense ASLMS point battle with series point leader Boom Briggs, has used consistency to chip away at a once 40-plus point lead by Briggs. After the ‘Chillicothe 50’ Briggs holds a mere six point edge over Blair going into ‘The Classic’ in October.
After one final caution on lap 45 for the spun car of Kevin Layne, Carrier, in his Grover Motorsports, Engines Inc. sponsored Rocket Chassis went on to hold off Montgomery for his third ASLMS (second at KC) win of the season with Blair coming home third, Rod Conley finishing a strong fourth and Donnie Moran rounding out the top five. Kinzer was sixth, Briggs seventh, eighth was Jared Hawkins, 2009 KC Raceway point champion Delmas Conley ninth and Bed Adkins tenth.
Thirty-six of the area's fastest modifieds battled through the heat races for the 22-car starting field in the feature. Heat winners were Shris Stotts, Jess Hartman, and Dustin Webber, while Rick Hensley, the 2009 K-C Champion claimed the dash.
In the Tri-State Modified feature Rick Hensley and Jason Montgomery battled early with Hensley getting the whistle on the no-stop rule after the duo got together. From that point on the rest of the field was out the chase the high flying Jackson, Ohio driver. Ben Adkins, Dave Pinkerton, and Mark Dickson were the early challengers for the caution plagued event.
Jess Hartman and Chris Stotts came to life about midway through the feature, picking off several cars along the way from their seventh and eighth place starts. While Montgomery motored out ahead of the pack, Stotts, Ben Adkins, and Hartman all battled for position. Meanwhile, all eyes were on young charger Doug Betts. Betts started scratch as a provisional and was fast and smart in driving to the front. Cautions were Betts' best friend in aiding him from a last to sixth place run worthy of Hard-Charger honors.
Hensley was also making fast work of his run from the tail after the early stoppage and advanced to 15th. The veteran of the speedway, Bob Crace, Jr. was also on the move in his #23. Crace charged from 14th to fifth in a great run with John Weasel Rhodes close behind in an eleventh to 7th run. Clint Keenan zoomed from 15th to 9th.
With a lot of action all throughout the pack, the excitement dwindled when it became evident Stotts, the closest challenger would not overtake Montgomery. Rounding out the top ten were Montgomery, Stotts, Adkins, Hartman, Crace, Betts, Rhodes, Sean Schobelock, who drove a steady race, Keenan, and another hard charger Jason Cottrill. Cottrill came from 21st to tenth.
Twenty-six cars fought hard for a right at the First Dan Reno Memorial Classic. Heat winners were Tommy Mossbarger, Jayme Dailey, Joe Williams, and Rob Smith.
Tommy Mossbarger and Jayme Dailey brought the field to the starting grid, but third place starter Joe Williams quickly shot into second. Mossbarger led the first couple circuits, then Williams mounted a heroic challenge that made the hobby main one of the best of the night.
For nine circuits, the duo battled side by side, and a couple of times rubbed doors in a friendly, old-fashioned battle. Lapped traffic soon came into play and Mossbarger used the first lapped car as a pick to give him the breathing room he needed to pull of the victory.
Rounding out the top ten were Mossbarger, Williams, Rob Smith, Tracey Ross, Bruce Gray, Jr., Joe Buskirk, Jamey ADams, Jayme Dailey, Glen Underwood, Tony Cline, and Aaron Forcum. Joe Buskirk was hard charger in a 14th to sixth place finish.
Delmas Conley was once again crowned the 2009 K-C Late Model Champion and Bruce Gray, Jr. captured the Hobby Stock Championship. Both drivers had great years in their respective divisions.
K-C is idle until Thursday, October 1 when it kicks off the Dirt Track World Cup Late Model Classic. The prestigious weekend runs October 1-3 with an overall $171,000 purse on the line for the three days of racing. Late Models, Modifieds, and 410 sprints are on the racing card.

Smith wins 410s, Conley takes 360's for first win
Hensley and Nier crowned KC Champs
Sanders and Hensley take wins
K-C Raceway Results
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-It was not a full moon, but the gravity of the on-track lunacy at Schreader's K-C Raceway Saturday night made for some great racing, including some early 4-wide racing in the Adv. Services Modifieds and 410 Sprint cars. The Dayton Auto Racing Fan Club paid tribute to the night's winners with a DARF Jacket and shirt, while a large crowd speckled with DARF members saw both great racing and The Good Samaritan Food Network take home over two truckloads of canned goods for the local pantry.
Mineral Wells, WV 360/410 driver Cale Conley, a 17-year-old Parkersburg High School senior claimed his first ever win in the 360's (then came back with a 3rd in the 410's), veteran Danny Smith captured the 410 Outlaw sprint main, Rod Sanders won the AMSA 1200 cc Mini-Sprints, and Rick Hensley won the Advanced Services Modifieds. Oak Hill's Hensley claimed the 2009 Points Championship in the mods and Piketon, Ohio's Jimmy Nier won the 410 sprint car championship.
The highlight of a spectacular open wheel night was the 410 sprint main which saw young Cale Conley and veteran Danny Smith sitting on the pole. Smith snagged an infield tire at the drop of the green and rode a wheelie nearly the length of the front chute. It didn't slow him much. "I was thinking I hit that tire and almost flipped it over backwards, then I lost focus and sorta overdrove for a while," said Smith.
The acrobatics allowed Cale Conley and Jimmy Stinson just enough of a break to blast into a solid lead. Conley exploded to the early lead. On lap nine Stinson snagged Conley for the top spot, then Smith joined the duo as a lapped car made it four wide coming into turn four. The dazzling spectacle brought the fans to their feet. Incredibly, stacked four abreast, the high running Smith banged the outside wall and rocketed past Stinson and Conley into the lead.
When asked about the four-wide race winning pass, Smith said, "Often the races are won with the Outlaws in traffic. You either do it (make the pass) or you hesitate and with the outlaws you have to go for it. That was the case tonight."
Stinson's Billy Jarrell #84 fell several paces back of Smith at the midpoint, then began to reel him in lapped traffic. By lap 20 Stinson was poised for a run at the top spot, but another kamikaze pass of a back-marker by Smith stymied Stinson's bid at the win. Conley and Higgins dueled for much of the final ten laps after Higgins overcame Nier for fourth. Nier defended his position to stop a rim-riding newlywed Todd Kane and Keith Baxter. Baxter, Cole Duncan, Josh Davis and Charlie Fisher battled for position the entire race, while Dave Dickson began a charge from last toward a top ten.
Smith said in victory lane, "We had to go back into town and get my other engine, then found out after all the work we had done it was just a fuel filter that broke loose in the tank. But it all paid off and thanks to everyone for coming out to watch and for everyone's help."
Rounding out the top ten behind Smith were Stinson, Conley, Higgins, Nier, Kane, Baxter, Duncan, Davis, and Fisher. Dickson was the hard-charger of the race with a 19th to eleventh place run in the Doug Abott #7a.
Albany, Ohio's Chris Stotts jumped into the early lead of the Advanced Services Modified feature with Doug Adkins quickly bagging pole sitter Rick Hensley for the second spot. Following a lap four caution, Adkins developed a flat, changed the tire and went to the tail to begin a charge to the front.
Following a lap six restart, Dave Fireball Pinkerton pulled alongside Stotts for the top spot, while Mike Long moved into fifth spot up from 14th. After a short-lived challenge from Pinkerton, Stotts began to widen his lead.
Bob Crace, Jr. fabricated a superior run from the tail after an early race caution. Crace, Jr. was in the top ten by lap 13 and by lap 16 had jumped to fifth. Rick Hensley, the 2009 K-C champ, started working late in the race, bagging Pinkerton for second, then taking the lead from Stotts on lap 17.
Stotts, last week's winner, then began chase in an effort to retake the top spot. Brandy Taylor had a solid top ten come to a halt after contact with the front chute wall.
Stotts made a last lap bid for the win, but Hensley ended his championship season in fine style with the victory. Behind Hensley were Stotts, Pinkerton, Adam Jordan, who ran a solid race all evening-long, Mike Long, Doug Popp, Jason Montgomery up off the tail to 7th, Sean Schobeloch also up from the tail, Lonnie Kidd, and Mike Gross. Crace's great run ended with a grinding turn one skirmish.
"I didn't have anything down low for him (Stotts) so I moved up to the top and the car hooked up," said Hensley. "This (championship) has been a long time coming. It's an awesome feeling. This is my first championship. I've run second to Doug Adkins several times and that was an honor...there were a lot of great drivers here at K-C this year. It's just an awesome time. Thank you fans!"
The cars were few, but the action was plenty in the 360 sprint main. The entire event went the full 25 laps and paid the full purse of $1500, $900, $700, $600, and $500 for the top five positions. Cale Conley jumped into a big lead, but by lap 13 Danny Smith started to close the gap. By lap 18, Smith was right on Conley's tail as they approached a lapped car. Conley put a great move on the lapped combatant and then blasted to an eight car-length lead over Smith at the finish. Tim Viles ran a great race to finish a strong third behind Smith, while Kory Crabtree was fourth, and Ron Blair fifth.
"That's my first full-size sprint win!", exclaimed Conley in victory lane. "It feels good to get it under my belt. I stayed high, because I was having some success there and once I got the lead I didn't want to mix it up. Maybe the bottom was faster, but if I thought if it works, it works and stayed the course. I think we learned something for the 410 main."
In the 1200 cc AMSA Mini-Sprint main Rod Sanders jumped into the early lead followed by Beau Stewart. Stewart and Sanders pulled away from the rest of the pack while Sam Ashworth, Ryan Broughton, and Kevin Roberts battled for third.
After a lap 11 restart Sanders pulled away while Ashworth reeled in Stewart for a bid at second. Following yet another restart Broughton took advantage of the situation and reclaimed third. Two laps later Ashworth captured third as Sanders raced on to the big win ahead of Stewart, Sam Ashworth, Ryan Broughton, Kevin Roberts, Jr., Jacob Wilson, T.J. Heil, Lonnie Reynolds, Greg Nichols, and Merrill Calvert.
"I haven't raced for two months. I've just been laying around enjoying myself on the boat and decided to come out and show these young kids we could race with them. This is a great track and I hope you guys decide to have us back," said Sanders.
The DTWCup LM Classic coming Oct. 1,2, and 3 pays $20,000 to win for the Late Models with a $40,000 bonus for the front row challenge, making it a possible $60,000 payday. Advance Services Modifieds will race for $3,000 to win with 26 cars starting in each division. October 2 will feature a $2,000 to win sprint program. Three day passes are $40 General Admission and $60 for a three-day pit pass. Coming Sept. 19 is the All-Star Late Models paying $5,000 to win. Stotts claims Advanced Services Main
K-C Raceway Results
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO- Showtime Chris Stotts of Shade, Ohio picks the big races and chooses them well; so many times the hard-charger has taken home the big check. Saturday’s choice was no different as Stotts claimed the Advanced Services Modified portion of the Buckeye 100 at Schrader's K-C Raceway.
Stotts who has been an avid Pierce race car fan and fabricator in the Pierce stables, had a few ideas of his own and claimed the flag-to-flag victory in a chassis of his own design.
"It's a brand new race car that we built from the ground-up," said Stotts in victory lane. "We've worked a few bugs out of it and it really hooked up tonight. Thanks to my family, my brother, and my crew for all of their help."
Despite one caution, Stotts walked away from the rest of the pack in dominant fashion. While Stotts was in cruise control out front, the husband-wife team of first heat winner Brandy Hensley and husband Rick--the K-C point’s leader--continued in torrid fashion. It looks like Rick will do the cooking this week as Brandy claimed the battle for second.
Dave McWilliams was the hard charger in a drive from 15th to tenth. Bob Crace, Jr. and Brian Whiteman also did a lot of passing in coming from deep in the field. Dave Fireball Pinkerton and Larry Holbrook battled tooth-and-claw for much of the race until on the final lap the duo came together and sat idle in turn four as Stotts claimed the checkered.
Once again a bunch of action back in the pack made for an exciting conclusion to a great evening of racing. Mark Frazier finally bagged Jess Hartman for a top five, while Tim Tribby--absent from the racing scene for a time--battled Rob Stambaugh and Crace. Behind Rick Hensley in fourth at the finish were Mark Frazier, Jess Hartman, Brian Whiteman, Tim Tribby, Rob Stambaugh, Bob Crace, Jr., and Dave McWilliams.
K-C will feature its Sprint car Championships on August 29 featuring 410 sprints, 360 Invader Sprint cars, Advanced Services Modifieds, and 1200 Mini Sprints along with the $5 plus five cans of Food Food-bank drive. Without five cans of food admission will be $10. DARF members will be admitted for half price, and a $500 bonus will be offered to a lucky driver who wins both the 410's and 360's.
Coming October 1,2,3 will be the DTWCup Classic paying $20,000 to win. For further information, call 740-663-4141 or visit www.kc-raceway.com >>

Buckeye 100 Qualifying Night At K-C Raceway Not Kind To Steve Francis & Other World of Outlaws Late Model Series Stars
ALMA, OH – Aug. 21, 2009 – Friday night’s ‘Buckeye 100’ qualifying program at K-C Raceway wasn’t kind to World of Outlaws Late Model Series points leader Steve Francis.
But on an evening that saw four of the top-five drivers in the tour points standings fail to qualify through a heat race, Francis certainly wasn’t alone in his misery.
The lone qualifier among the racers highest in the WoO LMS points battle was second-place Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., who trails Francis by six points entering the $20,000-to-win spectacular. He finished second in the fourth 12-lap heat despite racing more than half the distance with nosepiece damage that his car sustained when it dug into the track surface in turn three.
It was a tough night all around for the WoO LMS regulars. The only series traveler to win a heat race was Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Ga., who was joined by Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, Pa., Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., and Jeep VanWormer of Pinconning, Mich., on the list of preliminary victors.
Francis, 41, of Ashland, Ky., was the highest profile casualty on the opening night of the Buckeye 100 weekend. Racing at a three-eighths-mile oval located just over an hour’s drive from his home, the 2007 WoO LMS champion slowed on lap four of the third 12-lap heat when his Beitler Motorsports was stricken with a broken oil-pump belt as he set the pace.
The mechanical malfunction forced Francis and his Chris Burton-led crew to pull out a backup engine and make a powerplant swap before turning in for the night.
“It was just a fluke deal,” said Francis, who has finished second in six of the last eight WoO LMS A-Mains. “I haven’t had an oil-pump belt break since (a race at) Brownstown (Ind.) four years ago.
“But that’s racing. All we can do now is race as hard as we can tomorrow and see what happens.”
Francis faces a starting spot deep in a B-Main on Saturday night, but he remains confident about his chances to capture the big money in the Buckeye 100 and continue his pursuit of a second WoO LMS title.
“If the track’s like it was tonight,” said Francis, “I can win the race from 23rd (starting spot).”
Defending WoO LMS champion Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky., who sits third in the points standings, also missed the cut in Friday night’s heat races. He started second in the first heat but struggled to a seventh-place finish.
The list of heat non-qualifiers also included Tim Fuller of Watertown, N.Y., and Rick Eckert of York, Pa., who sit fourth and fifth, respectively, in the WoO LMS points standings. Fuller, whose streak of four consecutive tour wins ended on Thursday night at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville, Ohio, was unable to overtake Bart Hartman of Zanesville, Ohio, for the final transfer spot in the fourth heat.
The evening’s turn of events would seem to put Richards in the driver’s seat in the championship battle. He’s among the eight drivers – the top two finishers in each heat – who will redraw for the top eight starting spots in the Buckeye 100 on Saturday night.
A field of 43 cars assembled on qualifying night for the Buckeye 100, which was postponed by rain on its original date in early May.
Rick Combs, 34, of Bethel, Ohio, was fastest in Ohlins Shocks Time Trials, turning a lap of 14.184 seconds to secure his first-ever fast-time honor on the WoO LMS. But his fortunes turned in his heat race when he spun between turns three and four after falling from the pole to seventh and failed to qualify.
Twin B-Mains and the Buckeye 100 headline the program on Saturday night (Aug. 22) at K-C Raceway. A complete open-wheel Modified show will also be presented.
Gates are scheduled to open at 4 p.m., with racing set to begin at 7 p.m.

Schatz takes WoO Sprint Main, Gray tops Hobby Stocks
Alma, OH — Schatz Continues His Dominance of K-C Raceway: Wins for 4th Time on Saturday Night
Donnie Schatz was the star and the winner of the annual World of Outlaw sprint visit August 1, while Bruce Gray, Jr. dominated the Hobby Stock main after a great battle with Jamie Adams and Richard Trego. Every single time that Donny Schatz has competed at K-C Raceway in Ohio with the World of Outlaws, he has been in contention for the win. After finishing fourth in his debut at the track in 2004, he picked up his first victory at the track the following season. He followed that up with two more triumphs including a victory last season and the three-time and defending series champion made it two wins in a row at the high-banked bullring on Saturday night.
For Schatz, it was his 11th A-Feature win of the season aboard the Armor All J&J and the 99th of his World of Outlaws career, as he looks to become just the fifth driver in 31-plus year history of the series to accomplish that feat.
He started on the pole and paced the field for the entire distance, withstanding an early challenge from Dale Blaney followed by a late race battle with 20-time series champion Steve Kinser.
“I always look forward to coming here,” said Schatz. “This has been a good track to me. We’ve managed to get some wins here fighting hard and tonight we had a fading race car there at the end, but it was enough to get the job done I guess. It’s always fun here. It’s always slick and hard to get your race car stuck, but we seem to be a little bit above what everyone else has, so that is a good thing.”
The race began with Schatz leading from the pole, with Kinser and Blaney in tow. Blaney shot around Kinser to move into second coming off turn four on the opening lap. The first caution of the night came out on the fourth lap. Schatz led on the restart, with Blaney keeping pace with him as they neared lapped traffic on the eighth lap. The caution flew again on the 12th lap as the leaders were in very heavy traffic.
Schatz led on the ensuing restart, with Kinser charging around Blaney on the high side of turn four to take the second spot. Near the halfway point of the 40-lap contest, the leaders were back in heavy lapped traffic with Kinser gaining a lot of ground on Schatz. At this time, Blaney also began to close back in on the leader and Joey Saldana found himself in the lead pack as well.
“That’s what we want to see,” noted Schatz. “We want to see the traffic. If it’s hard for me to get by them and I’m out front, then it might be as hard for the second-place guy to get by and we can put some room in there. On the restarts my car was awesome and then each lap it got a little worse. I couldn’t figure out how to drive it different to get it right. We’ll keep working on it and we’re making a lot of changes and had some good runs and a couple of seconds
On the 27th lap Kinser went high exiting turn four and nearly took the lead from Schatz. He used the same move two laps later to again nearly take the top spot. As the laps wound down the leaders continued to work lapped traffic, with Kinser, Blaney and Joey Saldana going three-wide down the back straightaway on the 34th go-around. This allowed Schatz to extend his lead slightly. Kinser held the second spot after the furious battle with Blaney and Saldana. He cleared a couple of lapped cars down the stretch as he tried everything he could to track down Schatz.
“This place has always been pretty slick and hard to get a hold of and that kind of suits my style,” shared the winner when asked about his success at the track. “If you qualify halfway decent and get into the top-two in your heat race, you’ll be in a good spot. If you look at the time, they continually slow down all night so you don’t need all of that horsepower. Your car is stuck so hard that you keep working on it and that’s normally where we excel. It’s fun to be in that position.”
Kinser wound up second in the Quaker State Maxim to earn his 24th Top-Five finish of the season as he chases his first World of Outlaws win at K-C Raceway.
Blaney finished third aboard the Ti-22 Performance Maxim to earn his third podium finish in his last four starts with the World of Outlaws at K-C, which is in his home state of Ohio. He challenged Schatz early in the race after going from fourth to second on the opening lap getting around Steve Kinser and Jim Nier. He had a spirited battled late in the race with Kinser, Saldana and Meyers as all four looked to take the second spot.
“It seems like every time we come to K-C (Raceway) Donny (Schatz) is up in there,” said Blaney. “I think I have run second, second and third in the last few years. We seem to always run well here and have a good set-up. George (Fisher) who owns the cars live about an hour away so this is kind of his home track. We always run good here and been trying to get a win here. Overall, the way we have been going with our motor situation, we are ecstatic with a third.”
Jason Meyers lined up ninth for the main event and ended up fourth in the 40-lap contest. He was running eighth on the 12th lap before charging to the front in the GLR Investments KPC. He got around Craig Dollansky, Kraig Kinser and Jim Nier to move into the Top-Five. On the 36th lap he got around Blaney to take the third spot, though the latter retook it on the next lap.
“We had a great car,” explained Meyers. “After about 10 laps I really got going. It’s unfortunate that when I got to third I got mixed up with a lapped car and fell back a little bit. We had a great car tonight and it was a matter of a bad pill draw tonight and trying to recover from that. The guys did a great job and I’m really happy with our run here.”
Joey Saldana wound up fifth in the Budweiser Maxim, with former K-C Raceway track owner Jim Nier sixth aboard the B&J Contracting J&J. Craig Dollansky was seventh in the DirecTV Maxim, with Kraig Kinser eighth piloting the Bass Pro Shops Maxim. Aaron Higgins started 18th and finished ninth in the Bill Ison Log Acquisition JEI to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award. Butch Schroeder rounded out the Top-10 in the All Star Heating & Plumbing Maxim.
2009 has been the break-out year for Bruce Gray, Jr. who posted his fourth K-C Raceway win of the year after a torrid battle with his car builder Jamie Adams. As always the Hobby Stock drivers put on a great show for the big crowd in attendance. In the early going it was a three way duel with Adams leading Gray and Richard Trego. Jamie Dailey came into the mix on the fourth circuit and challenged Trego for third. Meanwhile, Gray made his bid for the top spot and made it stick diving low to lead the fifth circuit, only to have Adams come back for the lead on lap six.
Tied at the time for first in points, Gray and Adams battled side by side until Gray took over for good on lap eleven. Tommy Mossbarger reeled in Dailey for a bid at fourth, while Chad Barr and Mike Brust clashed for position with Joe Williams and Brandon Thompson jumping in on the battle. Williams finally broke free and thrust by four cars before edging Tommy Mossbarger for a top five. Even after a restart, Gray, Jr. was able to hold on for the win followed by Jamie Adams, Richard Trego, Jamie Dailey, Joe Williams, Tommy Mossbarger, Chad Barr, Brandon Thompson, Mike Brust, and Warren Ison.
"Thanks to Jamie Adams for the set-up and pressing me along. He has made this car fast. Sports-plus has made this car look good and Larry's Auto Service has given us a lot of support," said Gray. "It was good to get this win in front of my family and for my number one fans--The Cowboys."
Heat winners were Richard Trego, Jamey Adams, and Gray. Joe Williams was the hard charger of the feature race.

Conley takes "K-C Scramble" 736 career win!
Hensley hammers K-C mods, Dailey dunks Hobbys
K-C Raceway Results
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Rains pounded areas nearby, but K-C Raceway stayed high and dry. In the highest seat in the house, however, was veteran Delmas Conley, Wheelersburg, Ohio, who claimed the 30-lap $3,000 to win K-C Scramble Late Model feature Saturday night (July 18) at Jeff and Vicki Schrader's K-C Raceway. Taking the stunning $1,000 modified main was points' leader Rick Hensley (Oak Hill) and Jamie Dailey claimed his first-ever K-C Hobby Stock feature, a $600 to win invitational for the full bodied stock cars.
"K-C Raceway is the best track in America!", proclaimed an ecstatic Delmas Conley in victory lane. "I've always said that. It's always fun to race here and the fans are the greatest. The track was perfect tonight. (To announcer Scott Wolfe) Scott, you could have driven this car to victory tonight. My crew had the car perfect."
The veteran Conley, already a "Hall of Famer" started the night with a 13:91 clocking in hot laps. When the one-lap qualifying round came around, Conley was again in the thirteen's just three-tenths off the track record with a 13:921 or average of 98 miles per hour on the K-C high-banks. Although it wasn't a clean sweep by virtue of a third in the dash behind hard-charging Andy Bond and Greg Oliver, it was a dominating feature run--Conley's 736th of his career.
Dash winner Bond and Oliver paced the field to the green flag with Oliver riding the high side to lead lap one. Oliver continued his charge through lap seven when Chad Smith overcame Bond for second and in one giant swoop took the lead from Oliver. Smith led laps eight and nine as Conley pounced on Bond and Oliver for second.
Conley and Smith ran side by side for a couple laps before Conley appeared to blast out of a cannon in threading the needle between Smith and a lapped car on the backchute. The spectacular move was well worth the price of admission. Two laps later Smith went pitside with a flat, but returned in time to restart at the tail.
Smith's drive was equally impressive in earning him hard-charger honors from the tail to third place. Andy Bond's great night went up in smoke with a possible cooling problem on the backchute. As Conley put his mount on cruise control in half-tracking the field Barry Doss won a race-long battle with Oliver to take second.
Smith came back to third, bagging Oliver with two laps to go, while Dean Boyd, Brian Eaton, Chris Shannon, and Joey Dunseith completed impressive runs into the top ten. John Arthurs rounded out the top ten. Chad Smith was the hard charger from the tail to third.
"I knew I had to stay straight and smooth," said Advanced Services Modified winner Rick Hensley. "I could hear the cars behind me and knew if I kept my tires under me I would be fine. But what makes this all possible is the fans. If it weren't for them we couldn't do this. It's great to get the win and Dave (Pinkerton) drove a great race. It's been a good year for us and for the modifieds here at K-C."
By virtue of winning the fast-car dash Hensley started on the pole alongside Brian Whiteman. Whiteman worked every move in the book to try to vanquish Hensley, but just when Whiteman would get a run, someone else came into the picture. In the early going Jamie Adams, Nolan Dalton, Adam Lawson, and Fireball Pinkerton all challenged for the second slot.
Whiteman's charge to overcome Hensley was hampered in his effort to defend second from the quartet giving chase. Hensley survived several restarts with Whiteman right on his bumper. Just past the halfway point Whiteman dove low with Pinkerton going high around the flying Dalton. Whiteman's mount wouldn't stick and he looped it in turn one, relegating himself to the tail.
This left Pinkerton in the catbird's seat. Pinkerton gave it his best shot, but fell short at the finish. Nolan Dalton's great run ended with two laps to go as he and another car came together, setting the stage for a Whiteman/Pinkerton one-two finish and top-tenners from Adam Lawson, Jason Cottrill, Joey Back, Brian Whiteman, Doug Betts, Phillip Bapst, Fred Hardbarger, and Ricky Neace. Cottrill and Lawson had great finishes, while Kentuckian Joey Back and Whiteman shared hard-charger honors with charges from the tail.
Tommy Mossbarger took the early lead in the Hobby Stock Invitational, but Bruce Gray, Jr. quickly became the dominant driver. Gray withstood challenges from Mossbarger, Jamie Adams, Joe Williams, and Jamie Dailey for nearly the whole duration of the race.
Adams went pitside with cooling problems, while Dailey, Williams, and Brandon Thompson fought it out for second and third. Gray survived several cautions, but each time Dailey had a little more to offer in competition for the speedy C.J. Taxi car. Finally, with three laps to go Dailey bagged Gray and went on to win his first career feature.
Gray finished a solid second while Brandon Thompson, Joe Williams, Brian Moore, Jason Holstein, Butch Eblin, Jamey Adams, Tommy Mossbarger, and Warren Ison surged into the top ten. the ever-improving Thompson was the hard-charger of the race.
"Thank God...This is a great feeling," exclaimed Dailey. "Bruce gave me a good run. I think lapped traffic helped me and gave me the opportunity I needed."
Racing continues July 25 with the Open Wheel Shootout and K-C Hold'em each paying $2,000 to win for each class of 410 Sprints, NRA Invader 360 sprints, and Advanced Services Modifieds. August 1, the World of Outlaw sprint cars come to town for a $10,000 to win payday.
K-C is located 6 miles South of Chillicothe off SR 23 at Blain Highway. For further information call 740-663-4141 or visit the K-C website at <www.kc-raceway.com >>

Underwood whips Hobbys
K-C Raceway Results June 27,2009
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO- A well-written script unfolded into a three-way sprint to the checkered flag Saturday night at Schrader's K-C Raceway where veteran Delmas Conley edged Millersburg's Keith Berner and Hazard, KY's Eric Wells at the start-finish line in the 1st Capital Clash. With every fan on his feet, Conley powered out of the final turn for the final, narrow dash to victory. Piketon's Jimmy Nier claimed the 410 sprint main, Fireball Pinkerton took the modifieds, and Glenn Underwood came home first in the Hobby Stocks.
In the late model spectacular, Coolville, Ohio driver Andy Bond led the first circuit, but Hot Rod Conley zoomed to the point for the next two circuits. Father of the Wheelersburg, Ohio clan, Delmas Conley moved into the second slot and raced side-to-side with son Rod, but on lap four Delmas held the edge to lead the next 25-plus laps.
Bart Hartman and Eric Wells were both on a mission with Wells moving past Hot Rod on lap eight. Berner moved around Bond and Montgomery for fourth ahead of Hartman. Montgomery began to close the gap in a four car race--Berner, Conly, Hartman, Montgomery-- for third.
Conley was the master of lapped traffic, often boring it into the turns hard under the competition by the half way point. Wells sat comfortably in second, while Berner broke away from the pack for a solid third. Hartman also separated himself from Montgomery and Rod Conley with the Jackson, Ohio hotshoe finally securing fourth.
Eric Wells chased down Delmas Conley by lap 21. Conley rode the rim, while Wells tried to make it stick down low. At the 25 lap mark Wells took the top spot, only to have Conley take it back on lap 26. Oh What a race it was!
By the time lap 23 came around Keith Berner got into the mix, making it a gallant three-car run for the money. Wells slid past Conley on the 24th circuit with Berner close in tow. With the crowd now on its feet, Conley's Conley Trucking/Poske's/Draime Racing Engines/Rocket rode the momentum off the high side down the back chute to again blitz Wells for number one. Conley made his car wide through turns three and four as Wells looked for daylight on the outside. Berner, meanwhile, dove low as three cars galloped to the checkered with Conley in first and Berner nosing out Wells for third.
"That's what you get for leading too many laps," the always colorful Conley stated. "I just got a little too lax when I was out in front and Eric snuck up on me. Then I had to overdrive her just a little bit! But it made for a great show for the fans"; As the fans revelled with a rousing round of applause.
Announcer Bruce Hines said, "Early you had a great run with Rod; that had to be fun!" Delmas replied jokingly, "Yes, we had a great race there. For a while I thought I was going to have to knock him out of the way! (laughing) No, really, my car was just a little better than his tonight. So much of winning is the car, and I had a great race car tonight."
Rounding out the top ten behind 3rd place Wells were Wells, Bart Hartman, Jason Montgomery, Doug Drown, Rod Conley, Chris Combs, Chad Smith, and Mike Wilson.
Jimmy Stinson and Aaron Higgins came together with another car and looped their mounts in front of the pack on the initial start of the 410 sprint main. On then next start Jim Nier took the lead, but Todd Kane found a blast of speed to lead coming out of four. Higgins went pitside to bring out the yellow after two laps down, but Kane continued his charge of dominance after Nier tried a slide job on the restart.
Caleb Griffith ran a strong third with Keith Baxter, Danny Smith, and Ron Blair in hot pursuit. Baxter and Griffith fought hard for position, then Blair came back into the hunt. Six cars now separated Kane and Nier on the point. Kane started to pull away from the pack as Griffith gave Nier a run for second.
On the 23rd circuit Kane got over the top of the cushion and drilled the end of the turn four wall to bring out the red. Kane was shaken considerably, but did not require transport to the hospital. Now it was Griffith, in a tremendous run, shooting arrows at the leader Nier. When the race resumed, the field shuffled out into the order they restarted.
Said Nier in victory lane, "I just want to thank God and give Him all the glory, and thank all my crew, my owner, and my fans. When I hit the wall...well, it very well could have been #12 here in victory lane. You weren't the fastest car, but we were here at the finish and tonight I was fortunate to be here in victory lane."
Behind second place Griffith were Keith Baxter, Danny Smith, Neil Sheppard, Ron Blair, Mark Imler, Josh Davis, Eddie Slone, and Kirk Jeffries.
Mike Long led the first five laps of the Advanced Services Modified race with Jason Montgomery and Fireball Pinkerton fighting it out for second. Pinkerton began to challenge Long for the top spot and completed the pass, however, a half lap later Long exited with mechanical woes.
Pinkerton resumed the race in first, but Montgomery was all over the speedster ever inch of the remaining 15 circuits. Rob Stambaugh, Terry Hinkle, and Doug Betts shuffled back and forth for position, panning out in that order after a great race for position.
In third through tenth were Stambaugh, Terry Hinkle, Doug Betts, Jamie Adams, Rick Hensley, Eric Sheppard, Sean Schobeloch, and Greg Anderson.
Two weeks ago Pinkerton hadn't won a race. His win Saturday was his second consecutive win.
"They said it would be easier," laughed Pinkerton. "But I didn't know it would come this quick. Roger Mossbarger and his crew came out to help me. I was getting ready to come out and they replaced the fuel pump just in time to get me rolling. I thank them and everyone else who helps me and thanks to the fans for coming out to support us."
In the Hobby Stock main, Glenn Underwood pulled off a kamakazee pass of pole sitter Tracy Ross and Joe Williams who had moved into second. Underwood was on a rail, but Tracy Ross continued to be fast, while Jamie Adams tangoed with Williams for third. Underwood had a great run up front, but also Ross raced a strong second. In third through tenth were Adams, Joe Williams, Bruce Gray, Jr., Jamie Dailey, Brandon Thompson, Richard Trego, Shane Newman, and Warren Ison.
K-C Raceway continues with the 16th annual "Night the Stars Come Out" Friday night, July 3. Fans should note that there is no Saturday night racing July 4. Friday, Advance Services modifieds will join the All-Star Sprints and Late Models on the racing card.

Smith Smites K-C Sprint foes, Conley Crunches Late Models
Pinkerton claims first Mod main, Adams finds familiar spot in victory lane
K-C Raceway Results June 20, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO- Two veterans proved to be the class of the K-C Raceway field Saturday night at Jeff and Vickie Schrader's speed-plant, where twenty-six sprint cars were led to the checkered by Chillicothe, Ohio's Danny Smith. Another strong crowd cheered Wheelersburg's Delmas Conley to victory as the "Hall of Famer" posted his 734th career win after an early battle with last week's winner Bart Hartman. Pandemonium broke out in the victory circle as Dave "Fireball" Pinkerton claimed the Advanced Services Modifieds win for the first win of his career. Jamie Adams won the Hobby Stock main.
Piketon, Ohio's Jimmy Nier paced the field to the start of the 25-lap sprint main, and led the first 12 laps. Danny Smith mounted a charge from 11th to second bagging Aaron Higgins on lap seven. Smith quickly closed the gap on Nier and immediately began to dice it up in lapped traffic with the high-flying Nier. Four laps later, Higgins went pitside to bring out the first caution.
On the restart Smith did a major league slide job on Nier and nearly went out of the ball park, tightening up the harness just enough to regain control for fourth behind Cole Duncan and Jimmy Stinson. Duncan began to rope-in Nier, but overshot it just a little for a scary wall-riding escapade through turn three. The ride ended his night with Stinson now poised for a run at the 00 of Nier.
Now three-wide, Smith pulled the trio past the start line on lap 19, leaving Stinson and Nier to fight it out for second. Keith Baxter and Josh Davis continued with solid runs in fourth and fifth with Ron Blair and second generation driver Cody Kinser fighting it out for a top five. Strausser, Imler and Slone also made runs on the top five with hot-spot battles throughout the pack.
After overcoming ignition problems and a poor qualifying time, Smith's J&D Engines/Maxim blasted from the eleventh place start to claim the win and also earn hard-charger honors. Stinson held on for second, ahead of Nier, Baxter, Davis, Ron Blair, Cody Kinser, Adam Strausser, Mark Imler, and Eddie Slone.
"We started of our speedweek here tonight at K-C Raceway. We want to support this place and keep it going strong every Saturday night," said Smith in victory lane. "We had some problems early, but the track worked out right, the traffic worked out right, the finish worked out right. It's a great way to start our speedweek."
16-year old Bryce Dickson, Hilliard, Ohio was squeezed into the first turn wall and took a nasty series of end-over-enders. Dickson, the dash winner last week at Skyline, was uninjured.
It looked like it was a two-for-two night for Zanesville, Ohio driver Bart Hartman, who like last week endured another bout with the wall. The Bart-man was purely dominant to just past the midpoint after an earlier skirmish with Conley. Veteran Conley also mixed it up in traffic, but fell somewhat off the pace.
The first caution flew on the 14th lap, when John Whitney lost a drive-line component and dropped some liquid on the track. Leader Hartman --3/4 tracking most of his competitors and lapping up to the top seven-- was caught up in the slick and collected the wall.
Hartman resumed the lead, but on the backchute lost speed and ended his great run. Conley inherited the point and was left to defend numero uno from Barry Doss and Greg Oliver. Chris Combs made a late race charge amid a spirited battle with Billy Williams and Mike Wilson. Combs came on late for third with Wilson in tow for a great 3-4 battle run.
Conley proved to be the class of the field to claim the win over Doss, Combs, Wilson, Oliver, Williams, Jeff Houser, Danny Moore, Matt Yates, and Bryan Wolfe.
"I think I would have had something for Bart if he would have stayed in. He was fast early, but my car was getting better. I'd liked to beat Bart on the track, but sometimes that's the way it goes and we are glad to get here to victory lane," said Conley.
A huge pile-up on the first lap decimated the 23-car AMRA-ruled Advanced Services Modified field to 17. Lost from the line-up were charger Matt Holcomb, Eric Arledge, Jeremy Rayburn, Doug Morris, Steve Bobo, and Shannon Powers.
Jamie Adams and Fireball Pinkerton walked a tightrope for several laps. The usually rim-riding Pinkerton blitzed to the front on the inside with Adams tailing out on the top side. Following a tangle with Ricky French, Fred Harbarger went pitside. On the restart, Pinkerton's Lightening Chassis/FAST Racing Engines #8 was the class of the field for the next 10 laps. Pinkerton was flawlessly smooth and fast in distancing himself from the competition. Adams and Jason Montgomery thrilled the crowd with a spine-tingling spat for second. Rick Hensley shook out solidly in fourth, with Doug Betts battling Bob Crace, Jr. for a top five.
After a lap ten caution, Pinkerton jumped back in front and Montgomery blew by Adams for second, leaving Hensley and Adams to dual for third. Crace and Long bagged Betts for position.
Hensley took third, while Adams, Crace, and Long charged toward the front.
"I want to thank the fans and thank God for the blessings that have allowed me to put this car on the track and to do what I love,” said a gleaming Pinkerton. “ It's been six years of doing this and this is my first one. It sure feels great! Thank You!"
Rounding out the top ten behind Pinkerton were Montgomery, Hensley, Adams, Crace, Long, Whiteman, Adam Lawson, Betts, and Bud Frazier. Long was the hard-charger of the race in a strong run from eleventh.
Jamie Adams and Jamie Dailey had a great run for the money in the Hobby Stocks. Adams tried the high side, while Dailey clung close on the low side. At the halfway point Bruce Gray, Jr., Joe Williams, and Brandon Thompson rallied in close confines, pulling Tracy Ross and Jason Holstein into the mix.
Adams began to distance himself from the pack, while Dailey won a close battle for second with Williams and Gray. Bobby Trego survived an engine fire on the last lap, but escaped injury.
Rounding out the top ten were Dailey, Joe Williams, Bruce Gray, Jr., Tracy Ross, Brandon Thompson, Jason Holstein, Warren Ison, Richard Trego, Paul Harrager, and Brian Moore.
K-C will host all four divisions again next week in conjunction with its late model special, "The 1st Capital Clash" paying $3,000 for Late Models and $225 to start. For more information please visit << www.kc-raceway.com >>
