Montgomery Flies to First Career All Star Win

Blair Takes Second Consecutive Title
Kincaid and Thompson take Support Divisions

K-C Raceway Results   10/30/2010
By Jason Shank/Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-The last night for the Late Models and Modifieds at Schrader's K-C Raceway proved to bring out the best in everyone. Competition was at a premium and the large crowd at hand saw some of the best racing of the year as hometown hero and two-time track champion Jason Montgomery, Jackson, Ohio won a battle of nearly twenty-five side-by-side laps with Steve Casebolt, Jr. for the $5,000 O'Reilly All-Star Circuit of Champions "Topless Trick-or-Treat 50" win. Anthony Kincaid, Zanesville, Ohio is now 2-for-2 on the K-C high banks after claiming the Advanced Services AMRA modified win, and young Brandon Thompson won his first-ever Dan Reno Hobby Stock main.
Only sitting in the Late Model cockpit twice since late June, Montgomery had all but given up on the 2010 season, but after some prodding and the new acquisition of Estes power under the hood, Montgomery overcame the bad luck bug with a huge win. Choosing perhaps a harder compound than his competitors, Montgomery's car came to life at midway and was on a rail the last 15 circuits. Casebolt was within striking distance the remainder of the way, but could not make a run on the speeding Montgomery. (Read More)

K-C Raceway Results   Championship Night 10/9/2010
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-"Championship Night" by Budweiser was indeed a champion's fun-fest at the historic K-C Raceway. Amid the fanfare and drama of crowning 2010 champions, the AMRA Road Warrior Challenge and three other competitive features highlighted the action. Zanesville, Ohio's Anthony Kincaid brought home the Road Warrior Challenge win, Delmas Conley crowned the late models, Jimmy Nier mastered the 410 Goodyear sprints, and Jamie Adams hammered the Hobby Stock win. The latter three also earned season championships, while Brian Whiteman won his first modified crown.
The AMRA Road Warrior Challenge feature was a star-studded event featuring a large portion of the best open-wheel chauffer's in the business. Kevin Morehouse, last year's Classic winner, sat on the outside pole beside Jeremy Rayburn. Morehouse jumped ahead, but was quickly challenged by Kincaid with newly crowned champ Brian Whiteman in tow.
Morehouse and Kincaid continued to battle, but soon Kincaid would have the upper hand and the reversal of fortune now put Morehouse in the catbird seat. Early contenders Kenny Johnson and Rick Hensely, the 2009 K-C champ, got in an early accident that eliminated Johnson. Meanwhile, the caution aided a hard-charging Jesse Hartman. Jess Hartman was the hard charger in a maddening 13th to 4th run. Hartman was involved in a bad accident in his heat and won the consolation to earn a transfer into the feature.
Meanwhile, Kincaid zoomed on to the victory over Morehouse and a consistent Jess Wisecarver. Wisecarver started fifth and was right there at the finish, but couldn't advance of the proverbial ladder. Whiteman stave off Hartman for many laps, but at the end Hartman won out for fourth. Jason Montgomery and Rick Venham had good runs from deep in the pack, while Rayburn slipped to 7th.
Rounding out the top ten were Anthony Kincaid, Kevin Morehouse, Jess Wisecraver, Jess Hartman, Brian Whiteman, Jason Montgomery, Jeremy Rayburn, Rick Venham, Robert Garnes, and Lonnie Kidd.
In the Goodyear 410 sprint car main Jimmy Nier claimed both the win and the season championship in a flag-to-flag win aboard the B&J Welding #00. Nier had the horsepower to jump out to a huge lead on the starts, and won hands-down at the finish. Laps 13-17 brought some drama to the event as Sheldon Haudenschild ran Nier down in lapped traffic and came within five car lengths of the leader. Nier, however, mastered the traffic and zoomed on to the big win. The win earned near his second consecutive K-C title and third overall.
Going into the event, Nick Naber had a shot at the title. Naber, a former K-C champ, joined Keith Baxter as the only two probable drivers to unseat Nier. Naber briefly had second, but after an early joust with the high-flying 'Lil Haud" ran third for much of the race. Jimmy Stinson and Bryce Dickson both picked up positions in the end when Naber was whistle for passing before the cone.
Baxter ended up sixth in a good run after dueling much of the race with a hard-charging Josh Davis and Wisconsin Invader Tommy Sexton. Both Sexton and Adam Strausser stymied their runs with jaunts over the backchute, but both came back for top tens. Mike Linder was the hard charger of the race with a run from 18th to 9th. Dave Dickson came from 20th to 15th in a good run.
Flip victims were fast timer Brad Haudenschild and Ed Neumeister, both of which emerged ok. Rounding out the top ten were Jimmy Nier, Sheldon Haudenschild, Jimmy Stinson, Bryce Dickson, Nick Naber, Keith Baxter, Josh Davis, Tommy Sexton, Mike Linder, and Adam Strausser.
Delmas Conley and Audie Swartz paced the field to the start of the AMRA Late Model main. Conley got the initial jump and led the distance in a true Hall of Fame effort. Actually two Hall of Famers glittered the line-up as Rick Aukland, the Badlands Bandit earned a top ten. Jason Montgomery sat out most of the Late Model season, but was back in full swing Saturday. Montgomery earned a podium finish after a long battle with Swartz for position and Greggie Oliver, fresh off a Skyline win brought home second. Andy Bond had another good run ahead of Aukland and Northern invader Ryan Markham. Billy Gullion came back from a lap one spin to a top ten between Mark Frazier and Jason Flory.
Jason Montgomery was the hard charger in an 8th to 3rd run. Rounding out the top ten were Delmas Conley, Greggie Oliver, Jason Montgomery, Audie Swartz, Andy Bond, Rick Aukland, Ryan Markham, Mark Frazier, Billy Gullion, and Jason Flory.
The Hobby Stock main saw the Dominator Jamie Adams bring home the giant win. Adams was again the cream of the crop putting the infamous #42 in victory lane for the tenth time this season. In the points race much of the competition experienced bad luck, and with the win Adams sealed his own fate no matter what the competition finished. Jeff Sheets had a great run ahead of young flyer Evan Seitz. Seitz and Joe Williams had a spirited battled the duration of the race, while Joe Buskirk recovered from an early sprint to finish in the top ten. Tim Glassburn was hard charger in a 21st to 7th place run.
Rounding out the top ten were Jamie Adams, Jeff Sheets, Evan Seitz, Joe Williams, Joe Buskirk, Richie Trego, Tim Glassburn, Butch Eblin, Brandon Mather, Roger Mossbarger
K-C will run the Halloween Trick-or-Treat All-Star Late Model 30 on October 30 along with Modifieds and Hobby Stocks.

Conley Clinches Another...Keeps on Ticking
Montgomery Mod Man, Hemming Hums in Mini's
Adams Awesome in Reno Classic Memorial

K-C Raceway Results May 29, 2010
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Delmas Conley of Wheelersburg, OH doesn't own Timex stock, but he continues to tick. Conley, the patriarch of the racing Conley's again proved why he is a Hall of Famer, overtaking Mike Wilson early enroute to his 3rd win of the season in the ultra competitive K-C AMRA Late Model Division. Jason Montgomery claimed the AMRA Modifieds and Jamie Adams chalked up win number six in the Dan Reno Memorial Hobby Stock feature.
A great night of racing was dedicated to one of racing's nice guys Dan Reno. The second annual Dan Reno Memorial saw a field of 22 cars run 22 laps in honor of Reno's number 22. Trish Reno drove the pace car in the late driver's #22. Adams took the early lead much in the same way he has dominated all season as an ailing Steve Bigley (nearly undefeated in K-C runs) came out for the first time in 2010 for a great challenge. Adams and Bigley really began to pull away by lap nine with Tommy Mossbarger moving up to third and Jim Hildebrand making a move for 4th.
Joe Buskirk, the only other winner in 2010 besides Adams, was making a run from near the tail to fifth place with a great charge as was hard charger of the race Tracy Ross who came from 21st to 7th. Buskirk got a little to high and tangled with the retaining wall to end his night, while Mossbarger left the race to hand Hildebrand third. Brandon Thompson continued his up-and-coming status with a great run into the top five.
Thompson battled hard with Bruce Gray, Jr. as the duo approached the race's end with Adams now starting to stretch it out over invader Bigley. Rounding out the top ten were Adams, Steve Bigley, Jim Hildebrand, Brandon Thompson, Bruce Gray, Jr., Keith Baxter, Tracey Ross, Joe Williams, Jayme Dailey, Roger Mossbarger. As a tribute to Reno, sprint drivers Keith Baxter and Roger Mossbarger suited up for the Hobby Stock $2,222 to-win mega-special.
Dash winner Mike Wilson, Circleville, took the early lead in the AMRA Late Model main, however, it wasn't long that Delmas Conley was in the mix. When Delmas has his usual A-game on the fight is always for second. On lap 11 Mark Frazier showed his nose to Wilson for second. Wilson and Frazier, tight in lapped traffic wager a hard war for number two. Frazier slides by Wilson on lap 15, then Wilson took it back on lap 20.
Taking two to tango, Frazier shuffles back by Wilson for runner up. Frazier's second place bid came after an early battle with the Bond boys--Larry and Andy-- who both had great finishes. Larry, a former K-C champ made a rare K-C start a good one, however, Andy blasted by on the top for fourth.
Conley blasted on to win 738. Rounding out the top ten were Conley; Frazier; Andy Bond; Larry Bond; Mike Wilson; Greggie Oliver; Audie Swartz; Tony Roush; Jason Perry; and Ralph Withem. Dylan Huron was hard charger with an 18th to 13th run.
Jason Montgomery, Jackson, OH started on the pole and led every lap, but the task was not easy. Bob Crace, Jr. had one of his best runs of the year as he and Montgomery rode the high side. Every one from third back stacked up 2 to 4 wide. The battle was for 3rd as Montgomery and Crace stretched it out from the rest of the pack. Sean Shobelock ran the high side to move up the pack, taking 5th from Bud Frazier. Rod Sayre--in his first-ever K-C appearance- nailed down third and began a run on Crace, but Crace pulled away. On a lap 12 restart Crace tried to slide by Montgomery but to no avail as the battle continued for the top spot. Sayre showed his nose to Crace, but Crace held him off, as Montgomery grabbed the win. After suffering misfortune in the heat, Josh Edmiston showed everyone the fast way around the track in a dramatic 19th to 4th place run to earn hard-charger honors. Brian Whiteman had another steady run into the top five after a battle with Schobelock, while Jason Cottrill moved through the pack to 7th and Bud Frazier recovered from an early accident to eighth. Eric Arledge and Fred Hardbarger fought hard for position and both ended up with great top ten runs.
Rounding out the top ten were Jason Montgomery, Bob Crace, Jr., Rod Sayre, Josh Edmisten, Brian Whiteman, Sean Schobelock, Jason Cottrill, Bud Frazier, Eric Arledge, and Fred Hardbarger.
In the mini-sprint main, rookie driver Scott Schrader went end-over-end in his first mini-sprint start. The first lap accident left the good-natured driver shaken and sore, but luckily mostly uninjured. Rod Hemming took the initial lead with Ryan Broughton in tow. By lap 8 the front three cars of Hemming, Broughton, and Jeff Barnhart started lapping the field. On lap ten Brian Stewart took third from Broughton.
On the 13th circuit Stewart made a move to take 2nd with his eye on first. Hemming and Stewart battled through the last three laps with Hemming picking up the win. Rounding out the top ten were Hemming, Stewart, Barnhart, Broughton, Kevin Roberts, Nick Roberts, Kevin Roberts, Greg Nichols, Don Lewis, and Chris Smalley.

Mission Impossible: Smith wins both ends of K-C Twin 25's
Comes from last in nightcap to post second win!
Johnson and Adams claim support features

K-C Raceway Results          May 22, 2010
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Fans at K-C Raceway are still celebrating! Saying the Twin 25's at K-C Raceway were a huge hit for the fans and a big draw for the potent 410 Goodyear Sprint cars was a colossal understatement. Chillicothe, Ohio driver Danny Smith claimed the first 25-lap event, and then duplicated the feat in one of racing's rare last-to-first runs in the action packed nightcap. South Parkersburg, WV driver Kenny Johnson, the Southside Flyer, claimed the competitive 20-lap AMRA Advanced Services Modified main and Jamie Adams, now 4-of-5 this season, claimed the 15-lap Dan Reno Hobby Stock main.
A tough field of 33 sprint cars was whittled down to the starting 20 in the sprint car main. Veterans Danny Smith and Nick Naber paced the field to the green flag. After a lap five caution Dale Blaney restarted right on the tail of Smith. By lap eleven Blaney pulled alongside Smith, perhaps showing himself too soon, but Smith worked traffic to perfection and pulled way to six car lengths in the immediately ensuing laps.
Before it was over Smith had a straight-away lead and five lapped cars between he and Blaney as all 20 cars finished the 25-lap feature. The event was run in less than ten minutes despite one caution flag.
Rounding out the top ten behind Smith were Dale Blaney, Nick Naber, Ryan Myers, Jimmy Stinson, Cap Henry, Craig Keel, Keith Baxter, Adam Strausser, and Mike Linder. Craig Keel was the hard charger in a 12th to 7th run.
"I'm not in very good shape," huffed a red-faced Smith. "The track was fast and a little choppy, and that took a lot out of me. But it couldn't be helped...with all the rain we've had the track was in great shape."
The second feature started in exactly reverse order since all cars finished the first bout. Smith and Blaney brought up the rear, while Brandy Bower and Alec Martin paced the field to the green. Young Caleb Helms spun in turn one on the first lap and at the same moment Mike Linder lost power in turn three to set up a restart.
On the second start Bower looped it in front of the field. The chain reaction set off a Cap Henry flip and a Caleb Helms roll-over. Nick Naber was also eliminated in the mishap, but somehow Henry was able to continue.
Smith passed eight of the "faster" cars on the high side by the end of lap one and moved into sixth by the fourth lap. Meanwhile, young Alec Martin raced to a big lead over the first ten laps with Jamie "The Thriller" Miller close in tow. Martin drove the race of his life, and except for an occasional bobble, was one of the fastest cars on the track. Mark Imler held fourth, but Smith was to make him his next victim on lap nine.          On the eleventh circuit Jamie Miller blew past Martin for the lead and a lap later Smith blasted by, already stalking the leaders.
Dale Blaney made a similar charge to the front as well from the 19th position. Miller continued to lead through lap 17 but Smith was starting to pressure in a good old fashioned game of cat and mouse. On lap 19 Ryan Myers caught a wheel and rode a wild series of mid-air barrel-rolls right in front of the leaders.
As if the drama of Smith and Blaney's race to the front, and the spectacular runs by Martin and Miller weren't enough, the finale unfolded into a cliffhanger. Miller, Smith, Blaney, Greg Wilson (also with gallant charge) and Martin lined up in that order. On the restart Smith rocketed into the lead with Blaney in tow. As the race wound down, the fans came to their feet as Smith beat Blaney by two car lengths in a rare tail-to-first finish.
"I didn't know where I was when the red came out, so when I looked up (at the board) I thought 'darn, I'm second'," said an exhausted Smith. "I knew we passed a few cars, but the track was so demanding tonight I couldn't keep it at the top. I'm just glad to come out of here with the win and be able to put on a show for the fans."
Rounding out the top ten were Smith, Blaney, Wilson, Miller, Brian Smith, Keith Baxter, Martin, Imler, Adam Strausser, and former outlaw and Weedsport, New York racer Craig Keel. For Smith it was a clean sweep as he also won hard charger honors.
A star-studded AMRA modifed main saw Adam Jordan get the jump on Kenny Johnson on the initial start, however, one of the nation's top point men Doug Adkins suffered mechanical woes to bring out the caution with just one lap down. Losing one of the most popular drivers earned a sigh from loyal fans, however, for Johnson it was a sigh of relief. Jordan paced the field to the second green, but Johnson made his move on the high side and blitzed to a commanding lead.
Up-and-coming driver Vince Conrad held off the challenges of defending champ Rick Hensley. Finally breaking away to chase down Johnson, Bob Crace, Jr. then bagged Hensley with Rick Venham, Jr. in a rare K-C start staking out a top five. After a late-race caution Crace launched into second and challenged Johnson for the win.          The last two laps were a dog fight with Johnson defending the top spot for the win.
Crace made his bid for the win in crafty "cold duck"-style as Conrad, Venham, Hensley, Robin Duston, Adam Lawson, Buddy Brogan, Sean Schobelock, and Kevin Copher rounded out the top ten. Crace’s run was a great one, however, the hard charger award went to Hensley, who blasted from 17th to 5th.
"I just love this place," said an enthusiastic Johnson. "The K-C fans are great and it’s good to get the win here. We've finished well here and put on some great shows, but winning is what pays the bills."
In the Dan Reno Hobby Stocks, Jamie Adams of Laurelville, Ohio captured his fourth Hobby Stock main of the year virtually uncontested-- uncontested that is until the final two laps when lapped traffic clipped Adams and forced him into the slimy, mud-filled apron. Adams scrubbed off his momentum and Bruce Gray, Jr. saw his moment. Gray took the lead with two laps to go, while Adams struggled to regain control.
Adams blitzed back to Gray's quarter panels and rode the last two laps nose-to-tail. While lapped traffic slowed Adams, a lapped car gave Adams a chance to regain some fame. Adams dove low going into three and the two combatants raced side by side to the finish, where Adams edged by for the win.
The modest Adams accepted victory graciously, "I'd like to thank my wife and everyone who helps me. It got a little messy at the end. In fact I think I pushed Tim Cutler across the line and we both picked up some positions. This track was really fast tonight, and I feel fortunate to be able to come back and beat Bruce at the end."
Rounding out the top ten were Jamie Adams, Bruce Gray, Jr., Tommy Mossbabarger, Joe Buskirk, Jim Hildebrand, Brandon Thompson, Keith Dubois, Jayme Dailey, Richard Trego, and Brandon Mather. Buskirk, last week’s winner, earned hard-charger honors in a 17th to 4th place run.
Next week May 29 K-C hosts AMRA Late Models, AMRA Modifieds, Hobby Stocks and mini-sprints. There will be no sprint cars May 29. The Hobby Stock main will be in Memory of Dan Reno and will pay $2,222 to win in honor of Reno's number 22 with $122 to start.

Conley Keeps Trucking, Nier Nixes 410 sprints at K-C
Montgomery Machines Modifieds/Buskirk Buzzes Hobby's

May 15, Kids Night at K-C Raceway

K-C Raceway Results
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Three veterans and a young charger highlighted a great night of racing on the historic high-banks of Jeff and Vickie Schrader's K-C Raceway, where the streak of wins for Hall of Fame driver Delmas Conley continues to roll like an interstate odometer. Veteran Conley of Wheelersburg, Ohio blitzed the younger set with his 738th career win, while in the sprints Piketon, Ohio's Jimmy Nier made it a 2-for-2 weekend in the 410 outlaw sprints, Jackson's Jason Montgomery claimed the AMRA Advanced Services Modifieds, and Joe Buskirk won his first-ever Hobby Stock main.
The night also marked "Kids Bike Night" with another fun-filled night of action for the kids.
In the Goodyear 410 sprint main, youngster Kody Kinser and Jimmy Nier paced the 18 car sprint field to the green flag. Nier took the early lead with Kinser in tow, but soon Kinser's drive came to an end with a broken suspension. Cole Duncan mastered his feature set-up for a surge from 5th to second, after scrapping with Todd Kane for position.
Nier was the class of the field; however, Duncan made a charge mirroring some of the fine drives of his dad and former racer Rodney Duncan.
Keith Baxter, smooth and fast, picked off several cars in coming from 11th place, displacing Adam Strausser early then storming past Nick Naber and Ryan Myers. Eddie Slone, Ashland, KY, had one of his best runs of the year as Nier stretch out his lead from point and rode on to the win. Aaron Fry continued his smooth, hard style in posting a top ten, and Alec Martin earned hard charger honors in a 15th to 9th run.
Rounding out the top ten were Nier, Duncan, Kane, Baxter, Naber, Myers, Slone, Strausser, Martin, and Aaron Fry.
Many times veteran Delmas Conley has said, "I love K-C Raceway." And he has good reason. He may be the all-time winningest driver there in his Conley Trucking #71. Conley and Audie Swartz battled early with fast timer Duane Chamberlain, Jason Montgomery, and Nick Bocook in tow.
Montgomery had a run at third on Chamberlain, but a lap ten caution waved for this veteran's engine woes. With Montgomery out of the running Chamberlain, Swartz, and Bocook unleashed a scoring nightmare with trio or #1's all hunkered up for position. Conley meanwhile began to pull away, well on to his 738th career win.
Greggie Oliver had a great run in to the top five after claiming the second heat win with Mark Frazier directly in tow. Battling for position and top ten runs were Chris Wilson, Kenny Christy, Billy Gullion, and Tony Roush in his first-ever K-C appearance. Wilson outdistanced Christy and Gullion who both have had solid years on the 3/8 mile oval.
Rounding out the top ten were Conley, Chamberlain, Bocook, Swartz, Oliver, Frazier, Wilson, Christy, Gullion, and Roush. Scott Wolfe was hard charger in coming from 19th to 13th.
It was a bittersweet win for AMRA Advanced Services Modified winner Jason Montgomery; but mostly sweet. After losing his engine in his late model, Montgomery stormed to the win against a stellar field of AMRA modifieds after an early battle with Dave Pinkerton and points' leader Doug Adkins.
Contact from another car sent Adkins pit side, as Montgomery wiped his brow of his nearest competition. Tim Tribby and Jeremy Rayburn raced for position, but Tribby assumed Adkins' chase of Montgomery's X. Montgomery "eX'ed" out the competition and blitzed hard to the win. While half the crowd was pulling for Montgomery and the locally-owned 'X-car', another portion was pulling for the hard-charging point's chaser Brian Whiteman. Whiteman had a riveting run from 15th to 3rd to earn hard-charger honors. In doing so Whiteman passed icons Todd Robinson and Bob Crace, Jr. Last week's hard charger Doug Betts also had a great run and may have passed more cars this season than any other driver coming from 19th to 7th in co-hard charging fashion. Adam Lawson held off Betts after Betts gunned down Sean Schobelock, and Luke Jordon for position.
Rounding out the top ten were Montgomery, Tribby, Whiteman, Robinson, Crace, Jr., Lawson, Betts, Schobelock, Jordon, and Jason Cottrill. Cottrill had a good drive from 17th to 10th.
Said Montgomery in victory lane, "I tore this car up pretty bad last week and thought that it was done for a while, but these boys (Delbert Hurst, Ralph Guysinger, Dave Rawlins) put ole Humpty Dumpty back together again and she got the job done. It feels good to get the win for these guys and all of our sponsors."
In the Dan Reno Hobby Stock Division Joe Buskirk has inched his way forward each week. The last two weeks came not in inches, but in leaps and bounds. Buskirk (driving an Adams' Chassis) made a last lap pass of his mentor Jamie Adams to claim the popular win and end Adams' four race winning streak. The win was Buskirk's first-ever win, prompting a joyous victory lane celebration.
Last week, Buskirk was second by a narrow margin. This week, he "Gotter Done"! Adams led from the onset with Buskirk right on his rear bumper giving chase. Many other fine Hobby drivers were fighting for position, (Jason Holstein, Bruce Gray, Jr., Joe Williams, Mike Brust, Jim Hildebrand, Brandon Mather) but the race was for the top spot. Brandon Thompson and Tracey Ross had solid runs into the top ten, while late in the race Holstein held off a hard-charging Bruce Gray, Jr. (who was hard charger of the race). Gray had just one a mini-battle with former champ Joe Williams.
Rounding out the top ten were Buskirk, Adams, Holstein, Gray, Jr., Williams, Brust, Hildebrand, Mather, Thompson, and Ross.
Next week K-C hosts a 1960's flashback in the format of the old Atomic twin 50's, where Sprint cars will run double features. The first feature will run heads-up and the second will start in reverse order of the previous finish. This race has been the talk of the town and next week, the event comes to K-C Raceway.

K-C Raceway Buckeye 100 Champs- Steve Casebolt, Jr, Danny Smith, Doug Adkins, Jamie Adams
Kids Bike Night next week! Bike Racing!
K-C Raceway Results 5/8/2010
By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO- Four champions went down in the history books in the revived running of the Budweiser "Buckeye 100" Saturday night at Jeff and Vicki Schrader's K-C Raceway were Richmond, Indiana driver Steve Casebolt, Jr. (AMRA Late Models), Danny Smith (410 Sprints), Doug Adkins (AMRA Modifieds), and Jamie Adams (Hobby Stocks) claimed dramatic feature wins. In the tradition of the old Atomic Speedway cornerstone race, the "Buckeye 100", K-C featured 100 exciting laps of feature racing. Saturday, May 15 K-C hosts Pepsi-Kids Bike Night with bicycle racing in four divisions and all four classes of racing cars.
Dash winner Duane Chamberlain and Steve Casebolt, Jr. paced the AMRA Late Model field to starter Daryl Owens' green flag with Casebolt quickly jumping into a commanding lead. Chamberlain and R.J. Conley followed in close pursuit as another battle developed between Jason Montgomery and Greggie Oliver for 5th.
That duo was then pressed hard by hard-charging Bart Hartman in Mark Frazier's 9F. Oliver brought out the first caution on lap 14 after Casebolt had lapped five of the cars on the tail. The field was again slowed with Mike Bore sand Mike Wilson brought out cautions.
From that point on Casebolt restarted with authority as close action took place for second between Chamberlain and Conley. Delmas Conley moved into fifth position on lap 18, and then something apparently broke on points' leader R.J. Conley's mount sending him hard, head-long into the turn four tire barrier. Conley emerged only shaken, but his Rocket was in need of major reconstruction before the next launch.
Driving a steady race, Swartz took over seventh from Oliver and on lap 22 Scott Wolfe began to pressure Kenny Christy for 8th. Buckeye 100 Champ Casebolt worked traffic first to the line, while Chamberlain rode the high side to edge Hartman in a very close second place run.
Behind third place Hartman were Jason Montgomery, Delmas Conley, Audie Swartz, Greggie Oliver, Kenny Christy, Scott Wolfe, and Dean Boyd. Boyd was the hard charger in a 15th to 10th place run.
Former Danville, IN driver and one of the Icons of modern day sprint car racing, Danny Smith, now of Chillicothe, Ohio is two things: Smooth and Fast! The two ingredients proved to be the winning recipe in Smith's second win of the weekend and 4 of 5 wins on the local racing scene in 2010. Now, as Buckeye 100 champ, Smith adds a new gem to his crown.
Adam Strausser pressed hard to get a win for his longtime crew chief and relative Charlie McCann, a K-C Hall of Famer who fell victim to cancer last week. Strausser claimed the dash in high-flying fashion, but at the drop of the green in the feature Smith blasted off and toured the outer limits of the ozone layer in a flawless green-to-checkered run. Second generation driver Kody Kinser (offspring to Kelly) fell into second, while Jimmy Nier worked his way through the field for a fight with Strausser.
Josh Davis was on the move, but his driver from 10th to 5th stalled in the laps of Strausser, Nier, and an oncoming Cole Duncan. Strausser was able to take a closer look into second as Nier settled into fourth. Four laps later Nier pressed hard on the low side of Strausser with some help from lapped traffic. With Smith well out in front, Nier took over third on lap 23 and Duncan took over 5th from Davis, then added Strausser to the victim list in a great run through the pack.
Nick Naber and Jimmy Stinson came on strong at the finish, while Keith Baxter put the Charlie Brown #99 in a top ten run. Newcomer from the North, Kevin Lee, who had a strong second place to Naber in the heat, had a strong run into the money. Rounding out the top ten were Smith, Kinser, Nier, Duncan, Strausser, Davis, Stinson, Naber, Keith Baxter, and Kevin Lee. Davis was the hard-charger of the race.
The "Buzzard" Doug Adkins flew into town for his second K-C AMRA Advanced Services modified win of the year and let no shettlings for the rest of the field. Adkins, one of the premier modified drivers of the region, has four top-five's at K-C and is now the points leader in claiming the Buckeye 100 win.
Adkins cause was not easy. Jason Montgomery squeezed every ounce of horsepower from his #X mount, giving early challenges to Adkins. Kenny Johnson then came onto the scene as the former AMRA champ made it a torrid three way battle. Montgomery and Johnson's fight for second gave Adkins a little breathing room as Johnson finally nailed down the runner up slot.
Moving up through the pack, Doug Betts came from 21st to 10th and Fireball Pinkerton came from 16th to 9th in wall scraping, nail-biting exciting runs. Explosive back-in-the-pack action emerged from Adam Colley, Adam Jordan, Tim Tribby, Brian Whiteman, and Robin Duston--all top point men-- who dueled for position much of the night.
When all was said and done, Adkins said, "We're just having fun right now!" The statement didn't do justice to the fun and thrills the veteran gave to the crowd as he racked up a win ahead of top-tenners Johnson, Montgomery, Adam Colley, Adam Jordan, Tim Tribby, Brian Whiteman, Robin Duston, Dave Fireball Pinkerton, and Doug Betts.
Joe Buskirk and Brandon Thompson are close--really close to feature wins. But for the time being, the master of the Dan Reno Hobby Stock division and car-builder extraordinaire Jamie Adams is the 'King of the Hill' and the Buckeye Champion. Buskirk and Thompson went two-wide looking for some way to get around the veteran Adams. Thompson went low, Buskirk high and at some points locked to Adams back bumper. Adams knew where to be and carried the momentum to his fourth K-C win of the year.

Conley takes AMRA Late Model bout,

Smith Smokes Goodyear 410's at K-C
Adams Absolute best in Hobbys, Adkins Anchors Modifieds

K-C Raceway Results April 16, 2010

By Scott Wolfe
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-Wheelersburg, Ohio driver R.J. Conley made it two-for-two in the exciting 25-lap AMRA Late Model feature at Jeff and Vickie Schrader's K-C Raceway. In the Goodyear 410 sprint main, former champ Danny Smith, Chillicothe, Ohio scored the first 410 win of the year, while Jamie Adams took the Dan Reno Hobby Stocks, and Doug Adkins claimed the AMRA Advanced Services Modifieds.
Conley, last week's winner, picked up where he left off, but his job was a little tougher this time around. Dresden, Ohio's Donnie Moran jumped out to the lead on lap one of the late model feature. R.J. Conley and Greggie Oliver were neck-in-neck battling for the second position. Kenny Christy, Audie Swartz, and Jason Montgomery followed within close striking distance, as the entire field flat-footed the K-C highbanks. Donnie Moran got in a skirmish on the front stretch and was the first to go pitside, while four laps later B-main winner and racing journalist Scott Wolfe dropped out on lap 14.
Following Moran's caution, R.J. Conley took over the lead. Conley ran away from the pack at the drop of the green. Oliver clung to the runner-up, but continued with heavy heat from Swartz and Montgomery who were breathing down his neck. Swartz worked Oliver in the corners, but the straights were where Oliver was able to hold on. As the track locked down drivers challenged for every position, but Conley led the freight train to his second win.
Behind R.J. Conley, were Kenny Christy, Audie Swartz, Jason Montgomery, Greggie Oliver, Rod Conley, Devin Moran, Mark Frazier, Josh Tidwell, and Dylan Huron, who was the hard charger.
In the 410 main, Jimmy Nier and Smith brought the field to the line; as Sam Ashworth looped it in turn two for a complete restart. Nier reclaimed a big lead on the high side as Cole Duncan brought out a second caution after his machine stalled on the back stretch.
Nier took over yet again with Todd Kane and Jimmy Stinson settling into second and third. In turn two, Bryce Dickson and Ryan Myers got together for another caution. Smith, Kory Crabtree and Nick Naber followed the top three on the single file restart. Danny Smith overtook third from Jimmy Stinson on the low side and quickly reeled in Todd Kane on the outside. Crabtree pressured Stinson for fourth, while hard-charging Keith Baxter moved into tenth position from the tail by lap five.
Nier clipped the turn one wall and took a hard flip after going airborne several times. He escaped the tumble uninjured. Smith moved into the front position with Kane, Stinson, Crabtree, and Corey Conley following. Kane tried Smith on the low side and continued to press for several laps. Crabtree worked hard on the low side to peek at the third position over Stinson.
Crabtree was all over Jim Stinson for third working high and low, but unable to take control. Conley moved in and Crabtree focused on his hold on fourth. Smith approached lap traffic again with nineteen laps down. Stinson slipped into the second position around Todd Kane. Smith's lead was nearly an entire track's length as the white flag dropped and claimed the first win of the 2010 Goodyear Sprint Series. Kane, Stinson, Crabtree followed in a close battle for second and third with Conley, Naber, Neumeister, Adam Strausser, Sheldon Haudenschild, and Baxter rounding out the top ten. Baxter was the hard charger from the tail to tenth.
Last week in the AMRA Mods, Doug Adkins, West Portsmouth, Ohio, was the bridesmaid. This week he walked the aisle to a flag-to-flag win over the ever-persistent Brian Whiteman who was glued to Adkins bumper for the duration. Whiteman tried all the tricks to overcome the flying leader, but the "Buzzard" Adkins 'flew' on to the win.
Clint Keenan leap-frogged from 10th to fourth in torrid battles with Rob Stambaugh, Jeremy Rayburn, Bud Frazier, and Robin Duston, while Adam Colley was charging from the tail towards the top ten. Both Keenan and Colley earned hard charging honors. Stambaugh, Rayburn and one of K-C's greatest pioneers battled wildly for position as Whiteman was relentless in his efforts to over come Adkins. Pinkerton had a mid-race charge, but stalled with a credible 8th after starting 11th. When it all shook down Adkins posted the Advanced Services win ahead of Whiteman, Rob Stambaugh, Clint Keenan, Jeremy Rayburn, Bud Frazier, Robin Duston, Fireball Pinkerton, Jason Montgomery, and Adam Jordan.
In the Hobby Stock division Laurelville's Jamie Adams is the King of the Hill and sole proprietor of victory lane so far in 2010. The chassis builder extraordinaire wheeled to another win over former champ Tommy Mossbarger, who desperately tried to lasso the hard-charging Adams.
Meanwhile, although numerous battles were taking place in the pack, Tracey Ross was flat-footing it from 21st position all the way to a top ten (tenth). Joe Williams, Mark Kaetzel , Bruce Gray, Jr., Joe Buskirk, Brandon Thompson, Mike Brust, and Jayme Dailey all swapped positions, but when the checkered fell they trickled down in that running order with Ross rounding out the top ten.
Next week April 24, K-C will again have a regular show of four classes-410 sprints, AMRA Late Models, AMRA Advanced Modifieds, and Dan Reno Hobby Stocks. Then on April 30 and May 1 is the Dirt Cup Classic Weekend featuring one of the top purses of the 2010 racing season. Cars and drivers from all over the nation are expected!

R.J. Conley takes LM Opener! Rick Aukland is Road Warrior King!

Conley Takes Inaugural AMRA Late Model Go
Hall of Famer Aukland takes Road Warrior Challenge, Adams Adds Hobbys

K-C Raceway Results
CHILLICOTHE, OHIO-April 10, 2010- Three veteran drivers took home the top billing during Saturday night’s victory lane celebration in the season opener at Jeff and Vickie Schrader’s K-C Raceway. R. J. Conley, Wheelersburg, Ohio claimed the inaugural running of AMRA Late Models, while the AMRA Road Warrior Challenge for Advanced Services Modifieds saw former South Dakota driver and Zanesville, Oho transplant Rick Aukland take the win. Jamie Adams, Laurelville, won the Dan Reno Hobby Stock feature.
Part of the fanfare associated with opening day was the special ceremony that honored former K-C racing legends and their families. Each of the sections A through J of the K-C bleachers will now be named after the track’s greatest names. Honored were Dean Knittle, Sam Erwin, Junior Spencer, Charlie McCann, Wayne McGuire, Delmas Conley, Audie Swartz, Merle & Larry Williams, Dan Reno, Bud & Joe Frazier and The Smalley Family. Also, members of the original Chillicothe Stock Car Racing Association that built the track were honored and a section of the bleachers named for them.   Doug Ogden and Jim Meeker was there representing the CSCRA. Each of the families honored had someone represent them on this special day.
Wheelersburg, Ohio’s R.J. Conley loves opening night. After all, the high-flying driver of the Conley Trucking/ American Metal Supply/ Rocket Chassis #71R has won three of the last four opening nights at K-C Raceway. Saturday he took home the $1500 winner’s check in the 25-lap main. The event was the first-ever AMRA Late Model event at K-C Raceway.
“I love opening nights,” laughed Conley, who also drew much applause and some laughs from the crowd. “I wish they had more of them..one in May…one in June…one in July (laughing).”
“It’s special to win here on this very special night, where all the former superstars have been honored. It’s really special to win with all these greats (drivers) in attendance.”
Conley led green-to-checkered, but for a time Greg Oliver gave the veteran a run for the money. Conley was masterful in traffic allowing him to charge on to the win.
Jackson, Ohio’s Jason Montgomery was the hard-charger of the race, battling Zach Dohm and Rod Conley hard for an eventual third place finish. In a race that was slowed just once for a Mike Ratliff spin, a torrid pace allowed the race to finish in less than ten minutes.
Rick Aukland came on late to finish fourth ahead of ageless Delmas Conley, Audie Swartz, Mark Fraizer, Rod Conley, Zach Dohm, and Billy Gullion.
In the $1,200 to win, 30-lap AMRA Road Warrior Challenge, Dave Pinkerton led the first go-round, only to have Rick Aukland take the top spot on the second round. Aukland was quickly chased by West Portsmouth’s Doug Adkins. Chris Stotts mounted a drive into third and challenged for second, but his bid ended with mechanical failure on lap six.
The Aukland/Adkins duo pulled away from the field for the next ten circuits before Adkins begin to fade and Jason Montgomery climbed into the mix. The first caution of the night came on lap 16 when Jacob Hawkins was cited for a spin.
Great action took place back in the pack as Bobby Kitchen, Pinkerton, Rob Stambaugh, Bob Crace, Jr., Shawn Holliday, and Nick Hoffman all fought for position. Meanwhile, Kenny Johnson blasted off the tail to 11th by the lap 1 caution.   Three laps later Montgomery’s drive ended with a flat.
The Badland’s Bandit Aukland started to drift as his cooling tires took some time to build up the necessary heat after the restart. Adkins took advantage and made a challenge, only to once again have the yellow come out.
Johnson picked up three more positions in the transition. Adkins turned up the heat on Aukland, enabling the top five to soar within reach of the lead. Johnson moved into fourth by lap 26, working hard on Kitchen for third.
At the finish Aukland held off Adkins for the win with Kitchen, Johnson and Stambaugh in tow. Shawn Holliday, Nick Hoffman, Matt Holcomb, Josh Edmisten, and Bob Crace, Jr. rounded out the top ten.
“I’ve won here several times before and it’s always a challenge,” said Aukland. “I’d like to thank my owners and sponsors. I was hoping the checkered would fall soon. I could feel the right rear going down and the rim hitting the dirt.” (Eventually, the tire went flat)
In the Dan Reno Hobby Stock main Tommy Mossbarger returned to his former championship form with a big heat win, but he was no match for the high-flying Jamie Adams. Adams, the master for the K-C Hobby Stocks blitzed on to the win. Rounding out the top five were Jim Hildebrand, John Powell, and Brandon Thompson.
Next week will be the first regular night of racing with four divisions, the first for the 410 outlaw sprints with Late Models, Modifieds, and Hobby Stocks.
